Yes another exorcism film, and yes, another found footage film, but it fed my love for anything demonic and I really liked it.
I personally don’t get the low ratings and reviews of The Devil Inside, directed by William Brent Bell, has received. People really have got too fussy when it comes to horror nowadays (no one ever seems to be happy). Or maybe it’s my undying love for horror and the exorcism genre that made me like this film.
As usual, I didn’t watch the trailer, therefore not spoiling “all the good parts”, so a lot of the things I did see we’re a nice surprise.
I like the opening of the movie, a 911 call with a woman stating she has killed three people. This was said to be during an exorcism on herself, though some say that she was just crazy. Cut to the present day and her daughter, Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade), wants to find out exactly what happened and if her mum was genuinely possessed or in fact insane. She takes a trip out to Italy where her mum is incarcerated in a mental hospital to seek some answers.
The acting at some parts is the films weakest points, though I’ve seen much worse and I think the mother Maria (Suzan Crowley) played her character very well, as did the girl in the basement.
I like the freaky, contortionist positions and foreign, Latin speaking of those possessed. I believe in exorcisms and while it doesn’t necessarily scare me, it’ll always fascinate me.
A mini negative I do have for this film is the ending, but I get it. It leaves questions which personally I don’t mind and actually quite like as maybe they left it that way for a sequel (which I will be watching).
Overall if you are a serious horror lover with a penchant for exorcism films, The Devil Inside should be up your alley.
