Dry Blood sees a drug addict named Brian retreating to his cabin in a rural mountain town in an attempt to get sober. For extra support Brian calls on a friend named Anna to give him a hand; to make sure he eats right, as well as keeps him away from drugs. Anna isn’t one to play around and doesn’t give into Brian’s nonsense, as long as she’s there surely Brian can sober up, right?
However, things become even more complicated when he is terrorized by a bored but deranged sheriff, hallucination, and malevolent spirits. Are they simply the result of his withdrawal that will eventually pass? Or is something far more sinister at play?
Sounds like your run-of-the-mill haunted house movie, right? Wrong. It’s that and so much more. Written and staring the exceptional Clint Carney, Dry Blood is one serious mind bender of a movie that constantly requires you to do a double take and rewind just to confirm that you did, in fact, see what you thought you just saw. At least that was my experience and I loved every minute of it.
Dry Blood features constant twists and turns that make it immensely entertaining and at times almost too difficult to watch but not quite unbearable enough to look away. The best way to describe this movie is the cinematic embodiment of an acid trip; you’re always on edge, time doesn’t seem to work correctly, and- most importantly: You are never sure of what’s real or what is just out of reach of your realm of understanding.
If I had to pick a favorite character, it would have to be Kelton Jones as the unnamed officer. Without giving too much away, I will say that he stands out among a cast of talented actors. He does a wonderful job of playing a douchey character that you love to hate throughout the film. Overall, Dry Blood hits a high score with its script, camerawork and scare impact.
My favorite part of this film is that doesn’t rely too heavily on special effects. As a result, the few times edicts work or ghoulish makeup are used, the result is a bigger, better impact. Gore lovers and haunted house aficionados alike will be equally pleased.
Dry Blood will be available on VOD, Blu-Ray and DVD on January 15th from Epic Pictures! I highly suggest getting yourself a copy.
