Zombieland 2 Writers Say it is Still Happening, Just Waiting for Schedules to Align

Zombieland 2

In a recent conversation with ComicBook.ComZombieland 2 writers  Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool) confirmed that the film is still happening and that at this point, they are just waiting for the schedules of the original cast to align and ensuring that the film can be made on a comparable budget to the first. In addition to the original actors reprising their roles, it also sounds as though Ruben Fleischer will be back to helm. See exactly what the pair had to say, below.

It is [in active development]. We’re trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Ruben [Fleischer] is signed on. It’s just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million, so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to [sic] paid.

We see [Sony Pictures chairman] Tom Rothman pretty frequently now and we’re pestering that dude. He’s like, ‘Please, enough with the Zombieland talk!’ We’re pestering him the way we pestered Fox on Deadpool. We’re not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2.

Zombieland was adapted for an Amazon Prime pilot a few years ago but the content provider declined to take it to series, stating that their demographic wasn’t necessarily the right fit for the Zombieland target audience. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more on this project as it is announced.

The first film takes place in a post-apocolyptic reality where almost all residents of the US have been turned into bloodthirsty zombies. A group of four survivors band together in an attempt to take on the undead and live another day. The group is comprised of a young man trying to return to his hometown to reunite with his family, a loner in search of the last Twinkie on earth, and two young ladies on their way to an amusement park.
