Word War Z 2 Secures New Writer

World War Z 2

After a bit of a pause in any noteworthy updates on the production of World War Z 2, we finally have something concrete to share with you. It seems the sequel has landed a new writer in Dennis Kelly (of the British series Utopia). He will be working from an earlier draft submitted by Steven Knight. According to THR, the sequel is moving forward, rapidly. The outlet also reports that J.A. Bayona is still on board to helm the follow up effort. Rumors surfaced that the director may abandon ship after it was reported that he was being eyed to direct the Jurassic World sequel but that scuttlebutt has been quashed.

The original earned $540 million at the global box office, so a sequel was really an inevitability. As far as we know, the project is still slated for a Summer 2017 release. More specifically, a June 9, 2017 release. Brad Pitt will be reprising his role as Gerry Lane.

An official title has yet to be announced but as I said before, hopefully it won’t be World War Z 2 as that is a bit of a mouthful. Oh well, there’s plenty of time for the studio to come up with anything but that.

No official word on where the sequel will take the storyline but stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more details on this project as they are announced!
