Warwick Davis Reveals Why He Left The Leprechaun Franchise

Leprechaun Movies Worst to first

When LionsGate debuted the trailer for the upcoming Leprechaun Returns, absent was Warwick Davis in the titular role. Fans were understandably disappointed when the actor made the decision to step away from the role with the release of Leprechaun: Origins and had hoped that he may make his return in the upcoming sequel.

The actor recently sat down with Bang Showbiz to discuss his departure from the franchise and if he is likely to return to horror anytime soon.

“You know what, we did six Leprechaun films, and around Halloween people always watch them and love them, Davis told the outlet. Horror is an interesting medium. I think it’s different when you have kids; you look at horror in a slightly different way. Since I finished the Leprechaun films I had kids and I see the world through their eyes, and to be in a horror movie right now is probably not quite right. I will wait until my son turns 18 and then I’ll do some horror again.”

It’s nice to know that Davis is open to returning to the genre and who knows, maybe he would even be open to appearing in another Leprechaun film down the road.

Taking the reins as The Leprechaun in the upcoming sequel will be Linden Porco (Cult of Chucky, Channel Zero). Also starring are Taylor Spreitler (Amityville: The Awakening), and Mark Holton (Leprechaun). Note that this marks Holton’s first return to the franchise since his appearance in the 1993 original. Steven Kostanski (The Void) directs  the upcoming film from a script penned by Ash vs. Evil Dead scribe, Suzanne Keilly.

The 1993 original, through the series’ sixth installment featured Davis as the titular antagonist and followed him from the hood to space in search of his pot of gold.
