Rejoice! Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer’s Halloween-Themed Slasher Trick Finds a Home!

Back in March, we reported that production had begun on Trick, an upcoming, Halloween-themed slasher from beloved director Patrick Lussier and co-written by another horror hero, Todd Farmer. Now it appears we’ve just a few more months to wait before the highly-anticipated movie lands in theaters, courtesy of RJLE Films.

Trick stars character actor Omar Epps (House, Love & Basketball and, most recently, the USA Network’s Shooter) as Denver, the classic movie cop on the edge, who is obsessed with a serial killer who strikes…every Halloween. Epps features alongside Ellen Adair (Homeland, Billions, The Sinner) as the town sheriff, survivor Cheryl Winston (Blindspot’s Kristina Reyes), the last person to have seen Trick, frequent George A. Romero collaborator Tom Atkins, and Scream vet Jamie Kennedy.

Lussier will be well known to horror fans for helming the 2009 remake of My Bloody Valentine, as well as Dracula 2000, Drive Angry, and White Noise 2: The Light. The script for Trick, by he and Farmer, marks the duo’s third collaboration following My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry. Lussier’s impressive career began working alongside the legendary, and dearly missed, Wes Craven on the Scream franchise, as well as Red Eye, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, and Vampire in Brooklyn.

Farmer is beloved of horror fans thanks to his no-holds-barred revelations about how difficult his life in Hollywood has been, most notably in his devastating op-ed From Hollywood to Homeless, as well as his appearance on The Movie Crypt with Adam Green and Joe Lynch. The prolific screenwriter penned the likes of The Messengers, which starred Kristen Stewart, and cult hit Jason X, among many others.

Trick is most notable for re-teaming these two fan faves, as well as boasting a great hook, with the story centering on the elusive, titular killer who hits a small town annually (around the spookiest season, reportedly), committing gruesome murders, all of which are seemingly unrelated. Although nobody seems to think it’s the same killer, Denver knows better, having faced the elusive Trick once before.

RLJE Films has acquired Trick for distribution in theaters, on VOD, and on Digital HD, from October 18, 2019. Mark Ward, Chief Acquisitions Officer at RLJE Films, is delighted with the timing:

“We’re excited to release Trick just in time for Halloween. With thrilling plot twists and turns, Trick will have audiences grasping the edge of their seats and will be the start of a terrifying new franchise,” he enthused.

The official synopsis is as follows:

From the director of My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry comes the next chapter of Halloween horror. When a small town is visited every Halloween by a masked madman, Detective Mike Denver (Epps) will stop at nothing to discover who he is and how to stop him.
