One of Capcom’s most celebrated and successful franchises, Resident Evil, has had a long-running companion movie series that gives a different spin on the universe. While the movies take some liberties from the game, the elements of a corrupt corporation, a deadly zombie virus, and a hero who has the odds stacked against them remain.
The first installment of the Resident Evil film series was released in 2002, to positive reviews, while the five subsequent movies have had mixed critical reaction, but they nonetheless broke the box office with ticket sales (very important for this kind of franchise). Now, the latest, and arguably most-hyped movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has released a trailer that looks extremely promising.
It has been four years since the last film, but Resident Evil: The Final Chapter starts immediately where Resident Evil: Retribution left off. Our hero, Alice (played by Milla Jovovich), is back in Raccoon City, returning as the prodigal daughter out to save the human race.
Set for release in January 2017, the teaser is a thrilling, action-packed two minutes that looks to be a possible gem in the dull movie season that is the first couple months of the year. The apocalypse setting, zombie monsters, and mindless amounts of violence may not make it an Oscar contender but t’s still something that should be given a chance–particularly for fans of the original movies/games.
