The Purge TV Series Won’t Even Take Place on the Night of The Purge!

Still from The Purge 3: Election Year

And as we previously reported, a TV series based on The Purge is in the works with Universal television and Blumhouse. And the program is being developed for both the SyFy network and USA. It will air on both networks in 2018.

What we have learned today (via Deadline) is that the series will not actually be set on the night of the annual Purge. It will unfold over the other 364 days of the year, instead.

Jason Blum revealed at the NBCU Television UpFront that: The series will be “an entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness,” and it will “reveal to the fans what happens the other 364 days of the year and how that law affects people.”

That’s about all we know at this point but stay tuned for more on this project as we learn it!

James DeMonaco wrote and directed the first three installments in the series. And he will also be overseeing the production of the small screen adaptation.

No word, just yet on exactly when in 2018 we can expect the show to hit the airwaves but we do know that a writers room has already been set up.

The films in The Purge franchise take place in a future where one night a year, all crime is legal. Anyone not lucky enough to be secured behind double reinforced steel doors with a state-of-the-art alarm system and bulletproof glass has the potential for a very bad night. In the most recent installmenta senator running for President on the platform of ending The Purge is targeted by a group of assassins intent upon putting an end to her rise to power.
