The Predator news just keeps on coming. Earlier this week, we learned of two high-profile stuntmen reportedly set to strap on the creature’s boots (namely Kyle Strauts and Bryan A. Prince). And now, it seems we’ve got some further info on the movie’s tone, too, along with which high-profile star might be showing up.
Star Boyd Holbrook, who is playing Quinn Mc Kenna, a Special Forces commando, in Shane Black’s upcoming reboot, had much to say in an interview with We Got This Covered.
First up, Holbrook was adamant that the movie is definitely not a sequel:
It’s not a sequel; Shane Black has made something totally new, somehow keeping within the realm of Predator [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we’re talking about today… rooted in something real. It’s real fresh
After months of speculation, Holbrook also seemingly confirmed that we won’t be seeing that star in The Predator this time around:
I don’t think you’re going to see [Arnold] Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick
He also hinted at the movie’s tone, referring to it as a hybrid of three different genres:
It’s horror, science-fiction and a western
Holbrook’s comments echo those of Black, who recently revealed that his Predator would be getting some serious upgrades. Internet rumours suggest a brand-new Predator is set to terrorize the cast–one that measures up to ten feet tall.
When the project was first announced, it was rumored that it would be a direct sequel to the first film, ignoring everything that came after it, but this now seems to not be the case.
Cinematographer Larry Fong (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Super 8 and the upcoming Kong: Skull Island) is lensing, with filming set to begin very shortly, in Vancouver.
The Predator is due in theaters on February 9, 2018. Olivia Munn is set to star in the rated-R flick, as a scientist, opposite Holbrook. Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key and Trevante Rhodes are also set to star. Thomas Jane is rumoured.
Black is directing from a script by the legendary Fred Dekker.
Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has suggested (for quite a while at this stage) that he is in talks to star in the film. However, the rapper’s involvement has not been confirmed by anyone other than Fiddy himself.
