The Blob Remake Gains Steam

A remake that seemed like it could be dead in the water has announced some movement. We have learned via Screen Relish that director Simon West (Con Air) is moving ahead on his remake of The Blob. West’s reboot will be a more science fiction oriented stab at the 1958 original. Since the 1988 remake was fairly horror-centric, it seems that the redux is aiming to take the property in a very different direction.

West expects that the film will go into production later this year. Either in late Summer or early Fall. Stay tuned to the site for more on this as it is announced.

When Screen Relish probed the director for details about the status of the upcoming remake, he said the following:

“THE BLOB will be happening right after. In August or October and that takes a little more planning because we’ve got to design the creature. It’s going to be much more sci-fi than the original. It’s a bigger scale type of movie. It’s more ALIEN meets PREDATOR and designing the creature is a long and involved process cause its very sophisticated. It’s not going to be the goo pouring through windows. So, that’s taking a while to design and construct that.”
