Sequel rumors have been running rampant since the release of Ridley Scott’s 2012 pseudo-Alien prequel Prometheus. But most of them have been false starts, unsubstantiated claims and the like. However, it looks like we are finally beyond that and Prometheus 2 is almost a sure thing. In fact, Ridley Scott just revealed the title for the long discussed follow up effort. While doing press for The Martian, the director announced that he has officially settled on a title for his forthcoming Prometheus sequel. Head inside for all the details!
In an interview with HeyUGuys, Scott announced that the second installment in the Prometheus cannon will be titled Paradise Lost. While the name has obvious ties to the literary work of the same name by John Milton, it has another, very specific, meaning for Scott. In particular, it references the scene in the first Prometheus film where Ms. Shaw’s father explains what happens after death.
Shaw’s Father: Everyone has their own word; heaven, paradise. Whatever it’s called, it’s someplace beautiful.
Young Shaw: How do you know it’s beautiful?
“You know the poem?” Scott asked the outlet. “I’m sure you’ve never been through it, the poem’s a book, ‘Paradise Lost.’ It sounds intellectual but there’s a similarity to it. That’s where it stops.”
At one point, a release date of March 4, 2016 was announced for Prometheus 2 but that is definitely not feasible at this point. A 2017 release is looking a lot more likely now, especially now that we know the film won’t even begin lensing until February of next year.
Although we don’t know exactly where the sequel will go, we do know that we won’t be seeing any Xenomorphs. Scott confirmed that some time ago. We also know that the planet featured in the sequel (which is expected to be called Paradise) will be home to the evil doing engineers of the first installment in the series.
The sequel is written by Michael Green and Jack Paglen. It will see the return of both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for even more updates on this project as they are announced!
