Horror and funhouses go way back, with Tobe Hooper’s Video Nasty The Funhouse being a particular stand-out over the years.
It’s been a while since we’ve taken a trip to one of these hallowed institutions, but a new movie entitled The Funhouse Massacre is looking to change all that.
Starring none other than Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund (last seen terrorising a couple of obnoxious kids in likeable Brit flick The Last Showing). The film is written by newcomer Ben Begley and directed by Andy Palmer. The Funhouse Massacre also stars Clint Howard (The Lords Of Salem), Jere Burns (Bates Motel), Scottie Thompson (Before I Wake), and Matt Angel (My Super Psycho Sweet 16).
A creepy poster has just dropped (pictured above), which seems to position Englund (see our exclusive interview with him here) as a ringmaster of sorts (although the trailer suggests he’ll be playing the straight man).
The film follows six deranged psychopaths, who escape their mental asylum on Halloween night and descend upon a town of unsuspecting carnival-goers for one, final night of bloody fun. At first, it seems as though the murder and mayhem are all part of the show. By the time anyone realises what’s really happening, it might be too late. The only hope of escape lies with a group of plucky college kids. With everyone locked inside the carnival, will anyone make it out alive?
The Funhouse Massacre doesn’t have a firm release date as of yet, but we do have a suitably raucous trailer to whet gore-hounds appetites. Check it out below.
