The haunted house tale has enjoyed a resurgence in novels in recent years. Plague House, a series from Oni Press joined the wave of innovation in graphic novel form in April. The saga and eerie chills continue with Plague House No. 4. Wicked Horror is pleased to present an exclusive preview of that issue.
Plague House from Oni Press , like The September House by Carissas Orlando and We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer, provides an all-new spin on the familiar. Its imaginative take began with Plague House No. 1, from writer Michael W. Conrad (Wonder Woman, Double Walker) and 2024 Ringo Award-winning artist Dave Chisholm (Miles Davis and the Search for the Sound). Readers were introduced to killer Orin McCabe on death row and a team of ghost hunters charged with surveillance of McCabe’s abandoned home.
Thirteen years before the story opening, the reader learns McCabe was a family man living a privileged life in the suburbs. That changed when he murdered his family with a hammer.
The Plague House ghost hunters—Jacob, the holy man; Holland, the skeptic; and their leader, Del, a true believer in the occult and worlds beyond—search for proof for the existence of the undead . . . and whatever supernatural source may have possibly fueled McCabe’s inhuman massacre.
The team has been discovering “something much more terrifying than any ordinary spirit. . . . Something much more pernicious, much more contagious, that if not contained, could take full advantage of America’s unquenchable appetite for violence and deliver a plague of blood unto us all . . .,” according to Oni’s official synopsis of the series.
Picking up on events from previous issues, No. 4 continues with characters facing new challenges and recovering from previous events:
Del must cleanse the toxic lake known as the Salton Sea but discovers an evil curse that’s more than he can handle. He seeks more information from the hospitalized Holland and must break his own rule to move forward, no matter what the cost. Here’s what’s in store insdie the issue:
