If you’re still bummed out that the hugely-anticipated Rings has been pushed back to next year, fear not because we have a brand-new international poster to tide us over ’til then. Check it out after the jump.
The first trailer for Rings showcased that old Ring spirit we know and love, which should soothe anyone worried about Samara’s storied legacy (although her Japanese originator recently did battle in Sadako Vs Kayako – take from that what you will).
Rings will be released in theaters on February 3rd, 2017. As we previously reported, Javier Gutiérrez, the director of the upcoming installment, has promised that his new film will absolutely be a sequel and not a prequel to The Ring.
The synopsis for the upcoming movie is as follows:
A new chapter in the beloved Ring horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…
Akiva Goldsman, David Loucka and Jacob Aaron Estes co-penned the script, which is based on a novel by Koji Suzuki.
The 2002 feature film, The Ring, tells the story of a haunted VHS cassette that causes anyone that watches it to die seven days later. The tape is associated with the ghosts of a young girl named Samara who appears to have died an untimely and violent death.
The international poster (see below) is pretty cool. And, if nothing else, it hints that, at the very least, we’ll see Samara crawl out of a TV, which is pretty much all we’re looking for from this movie, right?
