In a recent interview with Collider, Shane Black offered a couple of updates on what we can expect from his follow up to the 1987 film Predator. He didn’t deny that Arnold Schwarzenegger would return for his continuation but he didn’t offer any confirmation, either. “We have not talked about it, which is good because I’m not supposed to talk about it anyway,” said Black. “Not supposed to talk about details of the script. And I shouldn’t.” He went on to say, “I think it’s something we’re looking into, and as this thing evolves and takes on more of a shape, we’ll figure out how best to honor the tradition of what is really a remarkable first movie and even parts of the rest of them as well.” Black also confirmed what we already suspected, that “This one will be set in present day.”
We recently reported on rumors that Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson was in talks to star in the film. However, the outlet didn’t seek confirmation on that piece, so the rapper’s involvement remains unconfirmed at this point.
The picture is scheduled for release March 2nd, 2018. It is a collaboration between writer Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad) and Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Decker made the announcement last year that he had finished his treatment of the script but things were fairly quiet on the Predator front until recently. In the past couple of months, we have seen a teaser image released, a release date announced, and now a flurry of casting rumors are circulating. We still don’t know when production is slated to begin but with a release date announced, it’s likely that Black plans to begin lensing soon.
When the project was first announced, it was rumored that this would be a direct sequel to the first film, ignoring all the others that came after it. And it seems as though that is still the case. Stay tuned for more on this as it is announced!
