Big news in the Spawn saga: Todd McFarlane has officially announced that not only is he done with a rough draft of the Spawn remake script but he has also gone through and shortened the draft substantially. You can see his official video announcement in the player below.
McFarlane has long been attempting to revive the Spawn franchise, most recently with a remake. There have been many roadblocks standing in the way of the project getting off the ground but it seems that some progress is finally being made.
Todd McFarlane previously reported that the film he is working on will not be a continuation of the 1997 feature film that disappointed fans and critics alike. It will be dark and a hard ‘R’. He has also revealed that he plans to direct the project himself and to do so with a lean budget.
There’s still no definitive word on when the film will be heading into production or a targeted release date. But McFarlane says (in the video below) that he has had more than 14 inquiries about the status of his screenplay. We will keep you in the loop as we learn more.
The 1997 original saw a mercenary being killed but later resurrected as a henchman for the devil himself.
