The first trailer for James Wan’s upcoming fright-fest sequel to mega-hit The Conjuring was a classy, super-spooky affair. Now, a second trailer has dropped, which promises some proper, old-school scares to rival even those of its predecessor.
Promising to investigate what is referred to in this latest trailer as “the English Amityville” the flick follows what is seen as the most documented case in paranormal history. Judging by the short tasters thus far, of what’s to come, Wan certainly isn’t pulling any punches second time around.
The Conjuring 2 takes on another of legendary paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren’s (played by returning actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson) real-life case studies, with the action relocated to late-1970s England where a particularly nasty poltergeist is tormenting a young girl. Wan returns as director, and also takes a co-writing credit.
The project was actually green-lit prior to The Conjuring even being released in cinemas, with New Line and Warner Bros. reportedly having serious faith in its storytelling and, presumably, its scare potential. Considering The Conjuring is the fourth highest grossing horror movie of all time, it’s likely The Enfield Poltergeist will make a significant splash when it’s released this summer.
The Enfield case was described by Lorraine Warren as the most terrifying of her entire career, so the material seems ripe for horror movie exploration.
The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist hits US theatres on June 10th, 2016
