Hot off the heels of that gnarly one sheet, a brand-new trailer for Adam Wingard’s upcoming Netflix movie Death Note has just dropped. And it has to be seen to be believed.
The flick stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys), Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton), Paul Nakauchi (Alpha and Omega), and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter), with horror fan favourite And Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next, Blair Witch) directing.
The premise is as follows:
Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life
The trailer gives us our first glimpse at Willem Dafoe’s God Of Death and, suffice to say, fans of the manga and genre aficionados alike will be pleased with his super-creepy design.
The property has already been developed for the big screen in Japan and that adaptation was followed by a sequel.
Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka served as producers on the project. Doug Davison and Brian Witten are executive producing. Jeremy Slater penned the most recent draft of the script. Shane Black (The Predator) was attached to direct prior to Adam Wingard coming on board. Death Note hits Netflix August 25, 2017.
