Killer Klowns Headed for the Small Screen?!

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

On the latest episode of The Movie Crypt, Adam Green featured Killer Klowns from Outer Space director Stephen Chiodo. When the conversation turned to the long-discussed sequel to the 1988 cult classic, Chiodo suggested that the property may be headed for the small screen (by way of a sequel-remake hybrid), rather than a theatrical follow up to the feature film.

Right now, we are currently pursuing a long arch series for cable,” Chiodo explained “We wondered, should we do a sequel to the first one or do we do a remake? We came up with a ‘requel’ – it’s a sequel and a remake. We’ve been developing this for a while. It’s a trilogy in four parts, and it really follows the continuing adventures of new people who are experiencing this phenomenon of a Klown invasion, and once in a while you see some of the old guys pop up and hear their stories – find out what happened over the last 25 years. It’s f**king great.”

The above statement poses a few questions, not the least of which is: How can it possibly be a trilogy in four parts? The director went on to say that MGM has shown interest in getting on board with a television project based on the property.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space tells the story of a band of deranged aliens (that bear a striking resemblance to clowns) who descend upon and wreak havoc in a small town.
