We’re still about six months away from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (can you wait!?), the follow-up to the huge, blockbusting, world-smashing Jurassic World. But now, along with some super-cool teaser images, we’ve got a trailer to pore over.
Fallen Kingdom picks up four years after its predecessor, with the titular park now destroyed and Isla Nublar left abandoned (sounds familiar). Dinos run riot and all seems well in this giant reptile paradise until the island’s dormant volcano comes roaring to life, leading Jurassic World heroes Owen and Claire to return and save the poor creatures before they’re rendered extinct. Again.
As premises go, it’s not the best. Or the most logical. If the big worry is about dinosaurs going extinct again, why not just engineer more? Is that not what they were doing all along? Still, Jurassic World wasn’t completely without its silly (and surprisingly nasty) delights so Fallen Kingdom could be schlocky fun.
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return as Owen and Claire, alongside executive producer and series originator Steven Spielberg. James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Toby Jones and Rafe Spall are all scheduled to appear along with Dr. Ian Malcolm himself, Jeff Goldblum, and dodgy scientist BD Wong, who appeared briefly in Jurassic World.
Directed by The Orphanage‘s J.A. Bayona and co-written by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, the flick is already gaining massive traction online thanks, for the most part, to its loopy premise and the inclusion of the always-welcome Goldblum, who made a striking impression earlier this year in Thor: Ragnarok.
