Hellboy Remake in the Works, Director and Star Announced!

Hellboy - Lovecraftian Horror Films - Hellboy

In huge news: Hellboy universe creator Mike Mignola has announced via social media that another Hellboy film is in the works. Rather than the threequel fans have been clamoring for, it will be an R-rated remake.

THR reports that Millenium is working with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin to bring the project to life. In even more exciting news, Neil Marshall (The Descent) is on board to direct. And Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is cowriting the script with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden.

David Harbour (Stranger Things; pictured below) is in negotiations to play the titular character in the redux.

The hangup in making a third film was likely that the first two installments didn’t really find their audience until home video. Both the original and the sequel did make their budget back at the box office but they did not become massively successful until they were released to home video. With video sales no longer being a guarantee, many financiers were hesitant to get on board with a third installment. But a remake is certainly better than nothing and considering the creative team, I think this is great news. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section. David Harbour
