Gary Dauberman Returns for Annabelle Sequel

Annabelle 2 2017 directed by David Sandberg.

We have just learned that Gary Dauberman, who penned the screenplay for the largely panned Annabelle, will be back to write the second installment. The news comes courtesy of Tracking Board. The outlet also revealed that director  John Leonetti is not likely to return and that the studio is seeking out fresh talent to helm the sequel.

The original was made for a budget of $6.5 million but went on to take in a grand total of $246 million. With those kind of numbers, a sequel is inevitable but with the tepid fan response to the original, I am curious if the follow up effort will see the same success. No word just yet on where the sequel will take the storyline but we will keep you in the loop as we know more.

As we mentioned, Annabelle was directed by John R. Leonetti (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) who previously served as a cinematographer on The Conjuring. It was written by Gary Dauberman (Crawlspace 2015) and it stars Ward Horton, Annabelle Wallis, and Alfre Woodard.

Annabelle is a spinoff tale that builds upon the story of a possessed doll which was established in James Wan‘s super hit The Conjuring. The film tells the story of the Form family. A well-meaning husband thinks that he has found the ideal gift for his pregnant wife and unborn child–a vintage doll. But when the couple’s home is invaded by cult members, the expectant mother and her husband begin to notice that the cultists have left something behind and whatever it is appears to be living in the doll.
