It’s one of the most anticipated horror movies of the year–rightly so, considering visual master Gore Verbinski is at the helm and Chronicle‘s Dane DeHaan is set to star. Now, we’ve got our very first glimpse at A Cure For Wellness, and suffice to say it brings the spooks.
From the director of the well-loved American remake of The Ring (and, er, Pirates Of The Caribbean), the DeHaan-starring, dodgy spa/mental health facility-set shocker is set to hit theaters on February 17.
Verbinski was reportedly working on a BioShock adaptation previously, and this latest effort seems to be steeped in the same creaky, old-fashioned and ultimately quite terrifying aesthetic.
DeHaan stars opposite Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs (currently appearing in Netflix hit The OA) and Mia Goth (tapped for the upcoming Suspiria reboot).
The premise sounds appropriately vague and ominous:
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure
