It’s been a long road for Snowpiercer. While it was a big success overseas, Harvey Weinstein originally wanted the US release watered down and requested that over 20 minutes of footage be removed from the film. An agreement was eventually reached after a long and drawn out battle. The end result saw Snowpiercer granted a limited theatrical exhibition and simultaneous VOD release last month. Now, a DVD street date is lined up for October 21, 2014 courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS.
The picture is co-written and directed by Joon-ho Bong (The Host). It stars Chris Evans (The Avengers), Ed Harris (Creepshow), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), and John Hurt (Alien).
This upcoming sci-fi/action film takes place in a future where a global warming experiment has killed off the majority of life on earth. What remains is a contemporary ice age. The only survivors are a handful of people that were lucky enough to have been aboard a train called The SnowPiercer when the tragedy occurred. Now, a class system has arisen aboard the train with the elite in the front and the lower class in the back. But the lower class is rising up and taking on each car in front of them one by one.
