It’s widely accepted that Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake of Dawn Of The Dead is one of the greatest reboots of all time which, given what’s come before and after it, wasn’t necessarily a difficult moniker to come by. On the other hand, Steve Miner’s reviled Day Of The Dead, released four years later to groans which quickly turned to intense hatred, from horror fans, is one of the worst.
Unperturbed by that movie’s (in)famous reputation, Nu Image/Millennium are charging ahead with a second reboot of Romero’s zombie classic. Whether it’s a straight remake or a re-remake of Miner’s film(!?) remains to be seen. The synopsis suggests the team, led by director Hèctor Hernández Vicens (The Corpse Of Anna Fritz), may, weirdly, be aiming for the latter:
A post-apocalyptic tale that follows a former medical student tormented by a dark figure from her past, who happens to be a half-human, half-zombie hell-bent on destroying her.
Casting is currently underway, with Campbell Grobman Films (who are also handling the Leatherface prequel) producing.
Mark Tonderai (The House at the End Of The Street) was previously attached to the project, back in 2013, but it seems that the flick is now headed in a different direction.
