Dark Tower Feature Film Adds a Mad Max Alum to the Casting Roster

The Dark Tower - Fran Kranz

As we previously reported, Stephen King has indicated that the feature adaptation of his Dark Tower saga series is likely to happen sooner rather than later. He also divulged that he expects Idris Elba and Matthew Mcconaughey would likely feature in leading roles.

Today we learned via Deadline that Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) is the latest to join the film’s cast. The outlet reports that Lee will play Tirana (who doesn’t appear until the series until seventh novel). According to the outlet’s character description, Tirana will be “sexy and dangerous and have fake human skin and cold snake-like eyes.

Idris Elba is in expected to play the role of Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey is reportedly slated to appear as The Man in Black.

Ron Howard was attached to direct the first installment at one point but last we checked, Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2009) was set to take over directorial duties. That announcement was made last summer, so it is unclear if Arcel is still set to helm. But no replacement has been named at this juncture.

Past reports have alluded to a film series based on the property that would also include a TV mini series that would run in between feature film installments. However, King did not comment on the current strategy for adapting the Dark Tower saga. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more on this as it is announced!
