Artists of the Abyss from EC Comics keeps things bloody, bold, brutal and brazen when it launches in January 2027!
We’re excited here at Wicked Horror to offer a chilling cover reveal for Artists of the Abyss, a new EC Comics and Oni Press one shot showcase with art by Sami Kivelä!
EC reports artists on new EC comics were offered a special instruction — “Keep it bloody and bold! Be brutal and brazen!”
The goal of the new title, Artists of the Abyss, aims to take the shackles off and let artists to continue to work freely and without inhibition.
Kivelä, known for the recent The Forever Home and Abbott, steps up to flex creative vision with cover art and a story in the new release.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the grim image that will greet comics shoppers Jan. 6, 2027.
Seems that October’s the perfect time to get a first look at that work even though snapping up the issue will have to wait.
The issue includes a a never-before-seen tale from Kivelä and Eisner Award–winning writer Greg Pak (Planet Hulk, Batman/Superman).
The issue also reprints some of Kivelä’s other EC efforts in an ad-free package. Stories appear from new EC titles Epitaphs from the Abyss and Catacomb of Torment, scripted by writers Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine) and Ben H. Winters (Archie)!
EC comics carry on the tradition of the original 1950s publications such as Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror, creating new tales of karmic destiny for a modern audience.
