Although it may seem like a weird fit, Captain America himself, Chris Evans, is allegedly in talks to appear as the titular character in LionsGate’s upcoming Jekyll.
Deadline reports that Evans may be circling the lead role of Tom Jackman in the feature, which is being produced by Ellen Degeneres and Jeff Kleeman’s A Very Good Production banner.
The flick has been scripted by the team of Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry (The Nice Guys), and is based on Steven Moffat’s (Sherlock, Dr Who) six-episode, 2007 miniseries, which aired on BBC One in the UK.
The Moffat-scripted TV show starred James Nesbitt as Jackman, a modern-day descendant of Jekyll who starts to show disturbing, and not easily-controlled, signs of a split personality as the episodes wear on.
The rumours surrounding Evans’ potential casting in Jekyll are directly opposed to previously-leaked info, which positioned Russell Crowe in the dual-personality role, first in the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy, and later in a standalone movie.
Universal are currently working on developing a monster universe using rebooted versions of classic creatures, with a view to establishing something like a Hammer Horror stable for millennials.
Their reboot of The Mummy, with Crowe as Jekyll/Hyde, is due for release in 2017.
