Black Christmas is Being Remade… Again

Black Christmas 2009

Following a wave of backlash from his comments about women in horror, Jason Blum and his mid-budget house of scares are planning a female-helmed reboot of the already reimagined 1974 classic, Black Christmas. The flick will be directed by the up-and-coming Sophia Takal (Always Shine and Into the Dark). Takal cowrote the script with April Wolfe (Widower).

What the studio promises will set the flick apart from its often maligned 2006 counterpart is that the sorority sisters won’t be helpless victims. They will stand up to the killer and fight for their lives in an epic battle to the death. Hopefully the hype is legit, considering it’s a risky and bold move to remake a film that was just remade less than fifteen years prior.

The cast will include horror veteran Imogen Poots (Green Room) as well as up-and-comers Aleyse Shannon (Charmed), Brittany O’Grady (Star), Lily Donoghue (Jane the Virgin) and Caleb Eberhardt (Broadway’s Choir Boy).

Blumhouse has picked a doubly appropriate release date for its re-remake. Not only will the flick make its theatrical bow during the holiday season, it will debut Friday December 13th.

You can peep the teaser poster, below. Maybe it’s just me but it immediately conjures recollections of the Glen Morgan redux.
