New on Netflix

New on Netflix is a weekly feature here at Wicked Horror where we look through the newest additions to everyone’s favorite streaming service. This week continues to bring us a couple of nice treats in what’s shaping up to be a pretty good month for streaming horror fans.

With that in mind, let’s take another look and see what this month is offering up for those who stream constantly and those who are just looking for an easy evening’s entertainment.

Creep

Yes, it’s another found footage film, but director Patrick Brice manages to think outside the box with this one. This is more unsettling than outright horrific, and a found footage movie that doesn’t rely entirely on jump scares is more impressive than anything else about it. Mark Duplass stars as the slowly unraveling titular creep, Josef.

The Pact II

This decent follow-up to The Pact is at least worth a watch to fans of the original, which was somewhat of a surprise indie hit. It may not quite live up to that one, but it’s worth passing a slow evening with. You could definitely do worse than to give it a try, although it’s probably better to check out the original first.

Alien Outpost is one of those movies where you pretty much get what you expect to get. So, if you expect an alien outpost, you’re in luck. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t pave any new ground in the science fiction genre, either. Still, there are strong sequences and even some surprising scares.

Alien OutpostBeneath

Beneath is a claustrophobic, subterranean thriller that has proved to be pretty divisive with fans. But it features an impressive cast of genre favorites, including Jeff Fahey and Kelly Noonan, as well as a script that offers up a few surprising twists and turns. It may not rub everyone the right way, but for others it will be a welcome surprise.
